Church and state #1

Americans make a great deal of the separation of church & state.
Israel is a fine example of what happens when there's no such divide.

In Israel, courts are forbidden from ordering a paternity test which may
prove the husband is NOT the father. This is because of Jewish law which
states that a child born to a married woman from someone who isn't her
husband, is an official BASTARD.

And in Judaism, bastards are forbidden from marrying, praying in the
synagogue and other restrictions. Bastardness is also hereditary - the
descendants of a bastard are also bastards, to the 7th generation.

So to prevent the religious harm to future generations, divorced men
are forced to pay child support for children who are clearly and visibly
not theirs.

To young for treatment

In the news today is the tale of a 3 year old girl who is diabetic.
her parents, both working, have to visit her kindergarten twice
each day to make sure she gets a shot of insulin.

It just so happens that the ministry of education provides help
to kids with diabetes, BUT ONLY AFTER THEY REACH THE AGE OF 5.

Before that there's no budget.

Finally

one of the drawbacks of having 10+ email addresses
is that passwords and accounts tend to get lost.
